You can always tell when I haven't had time to read this week's comic releases. The pick of the week will be an old back issue or trade paperback. And that's where we are this week, folks.
This week's pick is Wildstorm's The American Way by John Ridley and Georges Jeanty. The comic tells a story of the Civil Defense Corps, a superhero group created by the American government in the early 40s to fight Communism and all threats to the American way of life. Or at least to give that appearance.
What would life have been like for those with super powers in America? How would they defend American values? What would be their political affiliations during the socially chaotic times of the 50s and 60s? How would they deal with the civil rights movement, race riots, and other political issues of the day?
This 8-issue miniseries is amazing. I am rereading it for the third time, and I still love it. It is my favorite mini behind Kingdom Come and Watchmen. Great work. Pick up The American Way at your local comic shop (probably in trade paperback) or on www.comixology.com.
