The Weight Is Over

I've struggled with my weight for a long time. And, of course, the older I get, the harder it is to lose the weight. Each time I get on one of these health "kicks", I tell myself this'll be the one that sticks. However, the only things that stick are the Five Guys Burgers to my thighs. Heh. I've got Five Guys Thighs.

Anyway, I'm back at it again. But this time, I've surrounded myself with folks who are supportive and are on the same path as I am. Now, this is totally unlike me. I am not a people person. I sure as heck am not going to bond with someone over my excess fat. And I'm not going to share how much I gained or lost. But it's good to know that others are "suffering" along with me.

I walked thirty minutes Monday. And I walked thirty-five minutes today. I'm hoping for forty-five this Saturday morning. Eating the right thing is not my problem. It's the exercise.

Here's how it normally goes:

I will eat right and count my Weight Watchers points, letting myself go over a couple times a week using the extra weekly points. I will lose a few pounds the first week. Repeat. And I'll lose some more the second week. Repeat. And I'll lose a pound the third week. Then, I hit that plateau. After not seeing any results for a couple of weeks, I convince myself that it's ok to stop by Popeye's and get a meal just once that week. And the slippery slope becomes a cliff...

The problem with that scenario: I'm not reinforcing the lifestyle change with exercise. That's the only way I'm going to do this. I know that. But gyat dang it all to Hades, I hate pain! So I'm starting off by walking. And maybe I'll get an exercise bike at some point to mix it up. But walking is it for now. It's easy. I won't be a runner. I'll never be a runner.

The main reason for the lifestyle change is simple: life. I enjoy breathing. I want to live. And here's the geekiest part of this whole situation: It would kill me to know that I died an early death and missed out on some really cool comic book movies! Hey. We all need an incentive. I see all these movies that are set for 2015 or 2016 and plans for movie franchises with some of my favorite heroes. And I think to myself, "I wonder if I'll be around to see a really good Justice League of America movie."

I'm off to rub Icy Hot on my tookus. Have a good one.

It's gonna be a great summer for me as far as comics go.
